I have to develop a brocure that requires a logo I created in Illustrator. I have to use Indesign for the layout.
What is the best pantone colors to use for a "true orange" ? I am using DS 36-1 C. I understand that when you import illy graphics into Indesign, the quality is knock down to save file space too. I guess what I am asking is, is that Pantone color a good choice for a real orange, or is there another option? Also, process or solid coated or uncoated, any suggestions? Thanks so much!

a pantone color should print exactly (well really, really close) to what your pms swatch looks like.
that's why you're using a pantone color! =)

Better off picking a good CMYK combo, cause its not gonna print the same as it looks on the swatch. I wish I knew one :(

yup he's right - they orange wil have to be cmyk, and that'll be a little subjective as to what "true" orange will be. i think there is a pantone process guide book, but i dont' have it.

There is a swatch book that shows the pantone colour beside the process equivilent. If you don't have one you could contact the printer, they will probably have one.

Get your hands on Pantone swatches which show the closest matches in CMYK process. Some reprographics work Pantone calibrated, some don't.

"coated or uncoated, any suggestions? "
it's exactly the same colour only your screen simulates a preview of how the colour will look printed on coated or uncoated paper.

if you can i'd add a pantone color to the printing, make it 5 color [cmyk + pantone] because oranges are notoriously really crappy and muddy using cmyk.
oranges, pretty hard, good luck.

/\ Thats a really good point.
I also remember from operating a press, I hand mixed some Pantones before, and I mixed an orange and the job ended up looking much better than when I set it up to print only CMYK.
