Just ask the multitudes of researvists fighting and supporting troops in iraq. Many have lost their real jobs, wifes/husbands to divorce, arms/legs/etc. due to extended deployment.
I would ask yourself 'do I really believe in the mission over there enough to loss everything'. And if you don't support bush then why would you support 'his' war.

thanks for the honest reply stratusGD (and to all others)... This all originated after talking to one of our good friends in the air force... I was thinking about talking to a recruiter possibly next week... the reasons are not for money... not for bragging rights, more so to gain some discipline and be part of something bigger than myself... than again I do not want to abandon my career or turn away from design (I currently work as a designer and freelance fulltime)... The time commitment and scheduling would be my worst fear, nor boot camp, or dying... well not yet... thus why I am asking those involved... and not the hype...

peacecorps.gov (i like their site), check it frequently as well, that is more so leaving everything... job, family, etc. I have considered that though... I think I have always lacked stability in my life and not sure leaving everything for a new place would help...
