that all sounds great, but you don't really know you're going to do anything more than rot in your grave when you die.
you may believe so much that you are convinced it will happen, but you really have no proof of it.

it's really sad that I have to make this next comment -
people will judge you and put you out of their lives for the simple fact you have faith and believe in a certain religion - and also... the exact opposite happens when certain ones find faith too - they put people out their lives and judge them based on their new faith.

'it's the truth to me.'
being the important statement there

all you're saying there is that you will be judged by your actions.
...well obviously.
if you do something as major as changing your entire belief system to something i consider incredibly stupid, of course our relationship is going to be affected.

of course there is no real way to prove it. hence called faith.
in theory religion sounds quite fantastic. the practical application i see around me in my day to day life is rather sad.

Scarabin... you just described 'faith' perfectly.
Recall the movie 'Contact' when the scientist asked the religious person to prove that what he had faith in was true - his response was "Did you love your father?" She appeared offended almost, but said 'yes'...
... his response was 'prove it'.
What's unique about the bible is that it's full of history and prophecy. The prophecy mentioned in the bible actually came true regarding many historical facts, wars, super-powers etc.
Of course - now you're getting into 'proving' faith. Which I can do. I can prove why I have faith in who I believe God is and what his purpose is for this world.
Proving it of course would take forever over a forum. :)
You'll just have to take my word for it... or perhaps have a little faith.

any God is a tool, a human invention, a cage for the thinkers, a hoax to follow for the mentally less fortunate, a time wasting fantasy for the fearful, a painkiller for the insecure, a fraud to abuse for the evil.
that's science
scientology is a sect, ie the evil leading the stupid
- scarabin0
faith is the incredible ability of man to convince himself of something he really wants to be true, but has no logical proof or support in reality.
how this can be so idolized is beyond me.

no - all I said there is that it's 'sad' that people will judge and be judged...
it's SAD.
It's even sadder at how 'obvious' it is.

hym, so u r saying there is no god?
- emokid0
people are judged for every little thing they do, be it their choice of music/movies or religion. thats a side effect of being human.
- scarabin0
ponyboy, the bible and its 'prophecies' are quite possibly the worst example you could use to back up the validity of your religion.
the bible is a flawed mish-mash of stories so vague anyone can find anything they look for in it.
many of nostradamus' predictions appear to have come true.
i can make just as many vague prophecies and watch them 'come true'.
- emokid0
i predict that this thread will reach hundred despite being started on a weekend.
wait, make that a prophecy.
- scarabin0
and how is it sad that your actions will change the way people think of you?
that's not sad, that's just common fucking sense

and once again - everyone's dodging my 'Contact' quote...
... I use that quote cuz Carl Sagan was on to something.
Science requires fact - but there are so many quirks about the human persona that are unexplainable... like 'love' for example.
you have your 'theories' and I have my 'faith'... either way - we're both going to die in the end- but what happens after that death?
- Point50
worshipping anything does not appeal to me.
- scarabin0
heh, anyway, i think this thread has lost its point.
what are we on now? religion bashing, or just christianity bashing?
i'm up for either...
- Point50
but what happens after that death?

bloating, decomposition, autopsy, then either cremation or fertilizing duty

ponyboy- dude, have you even read carl sagan?
in 'science as a candle in the dark' he calls religion a pseudoscience; i.e. a bunch of superstitious nonsense touted as reality.
and love is not unexplainable.
i have a handful of pills in my posession right now that will make you feel love for anyone.
love is a trick of nature to get us to reproduce, and is very well explained biologically.
