drum software sequencer

looking to skip the hardware and get a nice software based drum sequencer.
any suggestions?
I have an electronic drum kit, but I can't play the beats that are in my head. I think this should help.

i'd go with a program called reason 3. www.propellerheads.se it'll do what you're looking for plus a lot more. it's like a virtual synth, sampler, drummachine, sequencer all in one.
at www.nativeinstruments.de is a program called battery, which is the dopest but you have to have an external sequencer like protools or cubase fer that.
you should be able to use your electro kit as triggers for either software.

but at this point, I am just looking for a drum sequencer, software based hopefully, but I would but some hardware. I am trying to keep it simple.

I don't know if this still exist or will run on newer systemas, but it was very siemple and to the point.
If you never put your hand on one, hammer heads is for you!
