My pC says:
No Operating system found.
yesterday it would reboot but it would take forever, so I reboot couple of times and nothing.
When I do a repair disk and do a chkdsk it says that there is a fatal failure on the disk.
Does that means that it is caput? Is there a way to retrive the info from that harddrive?
TIA

when the error message you get uses the word "fatal," you might think about ducking for cover.
take it to data recovery center...then buy a new hard drive...

you're pretty much f*cked, sorry. happened to me once and still they couldn't retrieve the HD
unless you can hit F10 on initial boot up to reset everything

do u have another system u can hook the HD upto? if you do, hook the corrupt HD as secondary HD and you should be able to get all your work off before u trash it.

thanks all for your comments, I was afraid the HD was gone.
The dead hardrive is from a laptop, can laptop hardrives be connected as secondary HD?
I know you can do that with regular HD but I dont know about laptops. THis is a gateway Laptop.

hmm...not sure about laptop.

It can be connected, but you'll probably have to buy an adapter.
Connecting it to a new system is probably a 40/60 chance of working - usually 'fatal' errors mean data recovery time (expensive).

some laptop hard drives can be connected to a standard IDE cable...but not many. there's no way to be sure except to pull it out.

cool, yeah specially its a computer that is 2 years old.
Now, I can get to the System Bios, like it loads the Gateway splash screen and then i can select F10 or F2 (that is how I got to the DOS Prompt).
If I let it run it says Operating System not found.
Anyways I was just wondering if this is a sign that stuff can be recovered.
In the meantime I am trying to find an adapter for that laptop.
Gateway 400VTX.

I found the HD

Does that HD looks like one that can be used with an attachment?
