Old book covers were often hand lettered. There are fonts that emulate this sort of swashy lettering:
Cabernet

i believe that you nailed it with the cabernet.
you f*ckin rock

that Cabernet font looks awesome, but what's up with the y glyph, it ruins everything!?
- Typographica0
Oh, I think the 'y' is great. All the more reason for alternates. I'm always trying to convince font makers of the value of alts.
- clerk0
yeah the alts are great, but i think the y glyph here makes the letters slightly unbalanced, the baseline cut looks careless to me. but i might actually buy it anyway cos i'm loving the caps. thanks for the tip typograohica!
- Typographica0
No prob. Clerk. If you buy through my link I get a tiny cut. That would be lovely.
- clerk0
will do that, have to check the font budget with the management first though :)
but since you're around, do you have any suggestions on a 80's corporate look font i was thinking of something similar as avenir?
- Typographica0
I don't think you'd find a font used by more corps in the 80s than Helvetica. Futura too.
Bizarre request! What's the goal? What's the project?
- clerk0
hehe, i've been commissioned to do a corp. id. for a research analyse company in the economic sector. they've requested a, eh... "wall street"-feeling so was thinking a ridgid sans font with a 80s look would do it. i might go with avenir/futura then...

Ahh. "Trustworthy", "Strong", "Boring". Trade and News Gothic might do as well.

And I can't believe I forgot Franklin Gothic, the font of Microsoft. It almost EQUALS 80s.
http://www.fontshop.com/index.cf…If you like that direction but want to update it a bit, try Luc(as) de Groot's Spiegel.

that's what i'm talking about. Spiegel was a new fresh acquaintance, liked that one. thanks man!
