I got a client who is asking me to design a logo for him. After the first round, he didn't like anything and he told me he wanted it to communicate "certainty and peace of mind". However, the allstate hands approach won't really work here 'cause it's a software company. Soo... any ideas as far as what kind of imagery could reflect those things?

Can you show what you have done so far or give the name of the company?

what I did was in a different direction, because that requirement was somethingt that was only made clear during the 2nd round. It was a different type of "certainty" that he was talking about. The company name is err... I can't say it for the sake of a disclosure agreement. However, I can tell you that it means "certainty" in an ancient language.

get a pencil and a piece of paper and write everything down that has those qualities to you.
design something from those. design many things from those.
refine refine refine

doesnotexist is on the money.
start with the idea of certainty. what shows certainty? in my mind: strong shapes, bold but safe colours (the ever classic blues, greens) and structured type. make it strong and bold and you'll be on the way there. depending on the company there's always the classical approach (trajan, crests, etc).
look at the marketplace and who convey that already. banks, stockbroking companies, blue-chip companies (major - mining, telecomunications, financial leaders). go from there.
good luck.

Hmm... the banking reference is a good pointer.
he likes the symantec logo. Does that help?
