i'm new to mx (i knew flash5 well).
so why does the x position for a movieclip say it is at 100px in the properties panel.
BUT the little cross on the stage indicates it is at 0.
it again indicates that it is positioned at 0, even when i do
onClipEvent (enterFrame){
this._x=0;
}but the property panel says 100?!?

You do know that there are different x/y for movieclips vs. on the timeline correct?

i'm not sure i understand.
i just want to see the exact x/y position of an object, relative to the _x and _y.

This may/may not help, but it will help me visualize what you are saying. Turn on your rulers and grid and explain EXACTLY what you see and what you want it to be. Im kinda confused by your discription...and I'm sure I'm not alone

Little more clarification...looks like the blue square "MAIN CLIP" has an anchor (the cross thing) set to the left. Go into the movie clip itself. On it's stage you will se an anchor in the middle...move your blue square (the object) to where the anchor is in line with the top left of the square. Then go back to the root and it should line up. Let me know what happens then

yeah that works, but it will cause problems for me in the future. i want to know where i can reference the actual _x and _y of the clip, so i can use it later in actionscript.
here is an example of what i was used to in flash 5:
in flash 5, it didn't matter whether object anchors inside were aligned, the property panel showed the actual anchor properties of the MAIN_CLIP.
