Enter topic: I want to see Amsterdam and no, I don't mean the Redlight District or recreational drug usage, I'm from Vancouver I got enough of that. I want to see design, art, music... culture in general. Anyone got some input?

Once you're there you'll find what you seek, it's not a big city, but there's much more to it than the Red Light district, which is VERY creepy...

yeah.. especially after a bunch of mushrooms. i felt like i was in some 14th century ship yard with a bunch of weird horny turkish pirates or something.
weird night.

is there anything online to check? something more "underground" ?(sorry for using that word, but you get the drift). i'm not on spring break.

the horny Turkish pirate scene is pretty exclusive and underground...

if you go to the Jordaan area, thats pretty nice, and the area around the RijksMuseum is also pretty good. Basically head to the VondelPark - the main park in town, the a lot radiates of that, otherwise cruise around some of the streets near main roads, and there are always bars and little shops tucked away. There is so much more to A'Dam than the red light area .. i lived there for a year, and only went to the red light area once.

Also go to Spui, an area near the centre of town, and go to the area near the Anne Frank house - some cool furniture and design stores there, amongst other things.

This will also come in handy:

Plus the docklands area up near the train station is under going another transformation, like much of the worlds docks. Get to Panama for big gigs etc.

i stayed in Jordaan. it was great. there was a cool little architecture book store next door to my hotel (aptly named t' hotel)
the Van Gough museum is not to be missed... but i can't tell you what's going down in the underground.
