I am in the process of redoing my book, and damn, there is SO much stuff....any advice on this. I have a lot of big fashion campaigns amongst other design work, books I will show as a few spreads on a page, posters, tshirts etc....not sure whether to show the fashion campaigns as full pages for each shot or what. it will make my book like 60 pages-70.

is "book" a euphemism for something nasty?

.
it refers to a portfolio
i say no mare than 50 maybe less, its a lot for someone to take it at once

10-15 strong pieces, and show a range.

most people probably make up their mind after the first 5.

I have broken my book up into 6 different sections. Worked it out so i can interchange them for the different clients I go see.

10-15! that is way small dont you think!!!! i have a large range of work from fashion lookbooks to straight up illustration. in order to show detail of each project, 10-15 good pieces could flow over 30 pages..

Do whatever work for you to show your range - get feedback from who ever you are showing it to

spendogg:
that makes sense.
for me it would be something like
campaigns
collateral
broadcast
illustration
packaging/productdo you find your sections limiting ever? like some things cross the board. for me, there is some illustration that would also account in product...argh! overlap!!!

show them everything you've ever done.
make a weekend out of it.

its great that you have a lot of work...now customise many books for different clients. this way you dont pigeon hole yourself but over showing too much of one type of style or to little of another.

15, but i only ever show 8 as not all work is applicable per company.

Yeah nsa there is some overlap - I usually have it all with me if they want to see the extended campaign - ie. it is cool for people to see the illustration then see the packaging application. I also have a concept section that shows a couple of projects that evolve from the thumbnail stages - when i am hiring creatives, those are the things i am most interested in - the process. I dont want people to come in and start designing on the computer - it drives me nuts.
