Illy VS Flash

So I wanted to ask if any of you have had any past experience in creating Icons and using Illustrator VS Flash. Reason I ask is because we all know even though Illustrator exports as SWF, the gradients are actually exported as BMP files (not vectors) when then imported into flash. I know many people still prefer constucting them in illustrator, but I have had better success using flash, since most of my projects are flash-based so they stay intact as vector form... but... I'm afraid illustrator vectors resize cleaner when scaling down (as most icons typically are). Your thoughts?

some news, you can copy and paste out of Illy into Flash.

Or just export flat colors, and ad your gradients later on in Flash.

cut and paste always seems to work more easily... plus its quicker to test/trial

some objects get creamed though

yeah... I understand you can copy/paste, but quite honestly, it sucks. It is really no different than importing an swf exported out of Illustrator. Gradients are turned into bmps and objects are often jacked up as previously mentioned... sucks :(

Copy-paste isn't good with complicated objects. But as someone suggested, export from Illy with solid fills and then it should be ok. I haven't tried to go through Freehand to Flash cuz i know that FH keeps all gradients and doesn't mess with lines.

right... but what about my ladder part of my question... has anyone had better results with scaling down complex icons with illustrator then exporting (keeping them clean and crisp..... and clear.... and nice and stuff)

i'm actually in the same boat right now. anybody have any good tips on making the transition from illy to flash less shitty. 1pt lines and .5 point lines turn into fat crap when imported or pasted into flash....
thx yalls

Go to Object>Flatten Transparency.
You might need to tweak shapes after the fact to reduce the # of vertices, or use the pathfinder palette to combine some shapes, but once you get a system worked out, it's not too bad.

Illy could kick Flash's ass.
No contest!

it all depends on what you are doing. I can create a vector image 5 times faster in flash than in illustrator... it's much more efficient when it comes to manipulating paths and corners and gradients. Illustrator just has more overall control (at times) and options.

Hopefully Adobe will sort out all the exporting issues from Illustrator now they own both products!

i build in illy - in case I have to goto print - and fix what I have to (or export out of illy) for flash.
