What a load of bull.
Supermarkets/stores have to have cams to make sure folks don't steal. Putting up a poster saying that it is against free will is just lame.

I absolutely hate cameras watching me anywhere, and it's worse if you work at a store, because you're pretty much standing around, doing random things, forgetting that there's a camera watching your every move.
I agree that the campaign sounds a little hokey though.

I really think you've missed the point

So what's the point?

i am with spongebob on this one.
our actions are connected deeply with morals and our values that we hold truely.
if there were no constraints or deterant, by sheer force of "tipping point" we may act against out moral or judgement. in many cases judging by law abiting citizens participating in riots and sorts as in group think, with out clear rationalization of cause and effect, we tend to act astray from our normal forms.
hence that poster is nothing but a representation of protest against the corporate america and conformity of bahviour. in essence, it has nothing to do with free will as a basic philosophical fundamentals.
that is my two cents.
more on free will..

i love the fact that people are so egocentric that they think anyone's watching them?
sure the footage gets shot but then unless something happens it gets written over (generally the next day).
think of all the cameras all over the place and try to imagine how many people would have to be employed or complex recognition computers used to analyse the footage for anything untoward or moneymaking (celebrity, sex, whatever). sure some are used for these actys but there are heaps that aren't even hooked up, simply a scare tactic.
i like to think that 'they' are watching us all the time. everyone. and somewhere out there in a big mirrored 'safe' building are rows of people watching us all. 1 person for every person out there (and one to watch the watcher, etc etc). deep back in the middle of a row is the dude who's watching my life. you can spot him as he's got a self inflicted hole is his head from his own handgun, blood is dripping off the desk. a note: "enough of this boring shite is enough!!!"

airey you make a good point and dead one on. i think the poster missed the ideals of "free will" and metaphorical "big brother".
if the poster stated big brother is watching you, i think would have been a better statement.

just for the record, my friend, a security gard, watches cameras all day long, and doesn't even pay attention to the general peopl; most law abiding citizens, but infact is being paid to document and prevent crime. The cameras are not there to monitor your behaviour, but in fact "cover the asses" of the store and security. For instance, you dont see general people on COPS or some other stupid show, but the jackasses that broke the law.

but the camera system in london metro with facial rec program, are there for monitoring your behaviour and activity. considering that they are on every block.
