yeah its htaccess.. but i think it depends on your host.
i tried to get it to work with (mt) and had no luck.. but web isn't my gig, so i really dunno.
- Jaline0
I'm confused. So it's not safe to use them?

i think you have to contact your host to see if that option is available.
but i never tried it so i dunno.

it's not safe.
you must configure which folders to show up and keep the others restricted

witt, thanks for the link!
unfortunately my stuffy head cannot read all of that or understand it.
- Jaline0
Yeah, I think I'll just stick with not having the ability to view the whole folder. It's too complicated. And I want everything to be safe.

you can contact your host and specify the folder on your site you want directory access to.
Not all hosts will do it.

basically you just need a file called .htaccess in the folder you want to show listings for.
The file contents should be:
Options +Indexesthey are reasonably safe to use. You can set just one folder to have listings, others not, etc..

I'm hosted by fate_redux though so I don't want to get into that whole thing.

if it's to integrate your design plan, you can simulate it in html easily. that's safe.
just screenshot the apache icons and build it up.
- anzelina0
it's not for design.
i recall a small file, perhaps called index.php ? that i could just drop into a folder, and it would give access to only that folder.
anyone?
p.s. jaline this small file i'm referring to is safe, as it only allows that one folder to be accessed.

in the top line of the file change the name from ../nt
to ../whatever the name of you filder is
- Jaline0
I know if you want someone to stop from accessing a folder, you just put a index.htm file in there. So I guess it's index.php for the other way around?

somebody needs to make a php file that just handles every single type of file, and gives you a directory like list with thumbnails where applicable.
know what im saying? like one of those nicely designed image browsers but like for all types of files...
does this exist?
- anzelina0
i think one of my friends made one of those.
- ********0
you should find out and let me know, i'd like it
