Design Must Grow

Ok...
I'm in and off design these days: I rant, I cry, I laugh, I want to keep doing it, I want to quit... I mostly feel that this metier (check the stupidity video for a pop ref) is loosing something coz everything is getting deja vu and predictable and not to the better end... and somehow when design became fashionable some of its peculiarities were lost, maybe for good.
It's getting really shallow and that feeling mainly responds for my ranting doubtful posts here. I am sorry for those and for all the QBN careful warnings. I do not wish you any mishaps.
I like drawing things and planning stuff like design demands of you. I always did and started doing it rather early in my life. But I also wish it could get into something better and bigger. I don't know if that's possible -- I certainly can't do it -- to make it more than it is -- but people together could just make the effort to nourish it with higher ends (not political but philosophical ones) and not so much a matter of mediatic content? coz those things go away and our labour's lost.
I mean if people gather, things can improve, like they always do when people gather with a more cultural aiming. THAT I would call a community. Not as it "seems" to be right now.
Worst of all... Rand seems to be gone... That's really bad news.
I hope that is not a sign of things to come... I really don't know.
Goodnight.
Sleep well.

It's not about design. It's about ideas. Design is just a means to communicate them.

It's most definitely about ideas, like fate said. I'm having a total lack of ideas at the moment. Or maybe I'm just not motivated?

more sleep too...
:D
maybe you're right nick. thx.
btw Jaline, it's not all about ideas. One has to work first the mediums to produce things, and to bring some newness to the show, and that takes a lot of time. A lot of time.

it's actually all about ideas, imo.
i think some people place too much value on excecution. a great excecution will never make a poor idea great.

i wanted to say i am very motivated right now, even lately, i am learning new processes to design and create new ideas that are very very new to me, that is why i am so motivated, i look at all the sites tied with each of your names, and i see so much originality so much newness, but perhaps it is because i am standing outside looking in...the net is new for me, but not that new, but the process the behind the scenes are new and that is giving me a lot of good feelings!!! i wish i could give it to a lot of you guys feeling down...a good thing i learned is to surround yourself with as many vibrant ideas in one spot on a daily basis as you can, a great place is near childern...they have the outmost original feelings and as adults we tend to forget them...
smiles around!!!

hmmm, can't the same idea appear differently if you come up with a technically different way of showing it?

do. or do not. there is no try.

(Jun 15 05, 18:26)yes... and that's where the right excecution becomes valuable. i guess if you fuck up the excecution bad enough u can fuck up the idea... but its a lot easier to come up with an excecution for a sick idea... harder to come up with tight excecution out of thin air...

i always think when i have kids, will they battle me on who has a better toy collection?
toys everywhere is my wife's motto!
action figures everywhere is mine!
surround yourself with the things you love and inspiration should always be around you like the stench of this dope weed!!!

what's the problem? just do what you do. if you really don't like anyone elses shit, ignore it, and do what you think is right on.
and if you are feeling a "designers block" ride it out, it will go away.

the problem is that i come from a literary background, and that (not to mention how the operative concepts differ) it's hard to get the same wholesome feeling about what you do in words and images. literary people are stuck on words and references; image people are stuck on effect and a hardy method.
but that's what i want to do. to find some dialectics on this. mix it up. and i'm not talking about comics or film.
there must be a middle way without the lessening of any of the parts. where the whole thing just gets into you.
that's what i want to find out if it's there for me to grasp.

Witt, that's what I've been looking for, for years really. Trying to discover what style, what methods, what technology works best, trying to figure out what everyone likes.
In the end, it's clever, clear, and honest ideas that work best.

(Jun 15 05, 18:37)Oh dear.
An another note, Eddie please have kids. We need more people like you in the world.

what if, fate_redux, there's no middle way interely? what then?
('what then?' is a famous Coleridge doubt...)
if there is, shouldn't it be figured out by now? there was many bright people in the past and none could ford the two...
maybe there isn't and we just have to divide ourselves between two loves... maybe that's what Hyde is really about. something that severs science and precision and feelings.
