looks good. are you going to go through production? or is it just a thought?

nice, i like.

you could add a design for a thigh-worn nylex or wetsuit material holder for sports nuts to use with it?!
- e-pill0
after this, i make around 20 detailed sketches for each part and send it off to be patened, then we make samples and send them for testing, then i make comments on my samples and we go thru the entire process roughly twice for items with little to no moving part, then i make pr-pro samples, then final production.
also i have this image plus 50 others just like it trademarked ™ woohoo so now its off to press im making t-shirts and i am not going to go thru threadless, one of a kinds!!!
:)

are you gonna put any design on the case? or words? like
"listen to e-pill"?
- sweetasbro0
not being negative but isn't the Shuffle meant to be cheap and small? how much is the case going to cost and how much weight is it going to add?
Sometime just because something looks nice doesn't mean it's useful and gonna sell...
Besides, it looks a lot similar to the iVault from Griffin: http://griffintechnology.com/pro…
- e-pill0
words?
"chew your pills!!!"
:)
- e-pill0
yes it is similar...we are developing a new carbonite metal case, it will be lighter than the shuffle itself, but stronger than most other cases, at least that is the theory we hope!!!
we have to try!!!!
:)

who is we? and think of how many cases there are for the regular ipod, i'm sure that the ipod case business isn't dominated by one brand. sure there are big ones, but like you said...
we have to try!!!

here:
there should be roughly 350 different ipod and ipod related cases on this site with a very descriptive and very objective view on each case.
most of them are not that original and tend to look similar to each other, with the demand of individuality per user there have sprung countless knock-offs on th e1 original idea...thee are threads below that cry about being ripped off, however, in the industry i am in, being ripped off is higly regarded as you did the job! someone knocking off your idea makes you look good...you did bring up a great many points about the price, the weight, and the look all of which "we" meaning myself and my team and the company we work for design new and innovative accessories for this great tech-e demographic...so my case reminds you of another branded case out there yet i see so many more just knocking off each other, yet i am trying to bring something new that looks like something old.
smile!

well i think they're all going to be similar right?
after all they all have to snugly fit around the same item, and have the appropriate holes for switches and whatnot.
of course they're going to look somewhat alike!

e-pill, how long/expensive was the trademark process? And what type of patent are you applying for?
- sweetasbro0
another one called Exopod: http://www.ipodlounge.com/index.…
The original Helixipod (designer of the iVault) already had the prototype done in Feb: http://forums.ipodlounge.com/sho…
and check out his case for the 3G ipod: http://forums.ipodlounge.com/sho…
not saying you won't do a good job, just saying non-original idea is not design, it's called re-hash, but 10/10 for trying though
- e-pill0
thanks anzelina!!!
fate: all trademarking, patenting of any products, or designs are all handeled thru the companies lawyers and the owners, as a designer i get my name on the patent, plus $1. the owners of the company have to acknowledge that the process and the design itself was done by myself and my team, so they give us $1 but its my name on the registered patent.
other than that the lawyers and owners take care of it all.

looks cool, but does that thing really need a case?
i have a mini and i'd never want a case for it... why bulk up something so perfectly small?
+ it takes hits like a champ
- fate_redux0
Well I ask because Trademarks usually take 6 months or more to process, and I'd wager Patents are the same if not more for the review process to be finalized.
- fate_redux0
agreed@nick. No point in the case. The thing has like 2 moving parts.
- e-pill0
nice!!
i like that last one the hol-e ipod case! nice!!
overall this thread was about my sketch itself, not product development or any of that, although if you wanted to...
:)
- sweetasbro0
e-pill, your sketch are tops are you are GD or ID person?
- e-pill0
the process of getting a finished sample takes about 8 months. the patents and trademarking is usually finished before the final product is completed.
the ipod shuffle does not in any shape or form need any case. its not my company, i just work there...but someone out there will buy it!
i myself do not own an ipod or anything remotely similar to an mp3 device, yet i design for it.
blah!
:)
