Hey, I got a porsche Lacie 250Gb external drive here and its attached to my mac (10.3) and it takes AGES to copy anything to it, have i done something wrong, its usb2 and when i copy stuff to other usb2 devices (such as pen drives) its WAY quicker,
\
Is there anything i can do to speed it up, im backing up huge files here and im getting annoyed!!Ta

why the hell would you buy a USB drive, especially one that size? Firewire is more than twice as fast as USB. see if you can exchange it or get a firewire cable.

which mac do you have? i ask only because USB 2 ports were not introduced to mac's until very recently. don;t know which, but i think G5 introduction is the marker. not all notebooks had them though...
off hand, why in the hell are you not using firewire? about a bazillion times faster.

the difference between usb2 and firewire in regards to a hard drive are not even a factor. hard drive speeds are so much slower than either of these at transferring data.

USB2 is not that much slower than firewire. You guys are confused thinking it is USB1.

ive got a g4 so maybe thats it, maybe i only have usb drives, still seems reeeeaaallly slow tho, nothing i can do?????
- jpea0
sorry, guess i was generalizing cause i've only used them both on windows boxes. too bad apparently usb2 on the mac blows. so yeah, go check out some firewire drives
- jpea0
no, nothing you can do if you're using a non usb2 port. and slowing down to usb1 is SLLLOOW

ah that sucks, gonna keep this drive as ive already got 120 gig of work on it but it just takes so long to copy.
nevermind, firewire it is next time then!!!!!!!!!
