I'm trying to decide what I should get. I'm leaning towards a 12" pb that i'll hook up to an lcd. so asides from real estate to work with, what other cons are there if i go with a 12" vs a 15" pb? any noticable performance issues (assuming both are 1.5ghz)? componant issues?

12" is fine as long as you only work on the 12", once you hook it up to a bigger lcd and get use to that it is a pain in the ass when you are not around it and have to stick with the PB display
go 15", you will not regret it

but seriously, my housmate has a 12 inch pb, he loves it, but it just seems so freaking small to me. The 12 inches don't have all the ports but they are expandable

15 inch

I went 15". The 12" screen is toooooo tiny and frustrating to use when you don't have it hooked up to an external monitor.

i owned a 12 and loved it - never had ONE problem with it - then it was stolen
so i bought a 15, ive had more problems with the 15, which isnt alot at all - but otherwise i still love it - treat it well and itll work forever
i duno why mine is hating me tonight ;\
but yeah 15 inch for easier work flow i think

yeah, i read that the 12" doesnt have a pci slot and only firewire 400. almost everything else seems to be on the same level. I'm using a 15" from my work right now and i do love it. I'm just thinkin about saving a buck or two. now you guys got me leaning towards the 15". thanks for ur opinions.

I've used a 12' for nearly 2 yrs and it's been fine so far....but I need to move to a new machine.
I'm now going to move upto the 15" because I need the extra screen space, extra processor power (1.67gHz) the FireWire800,
PCI, expandable to 2GB Ram (1.25GB max on 12"), 128mb graphics card(not avail on 12"),
illuminated keyboard.

theres never been a worse time to get a PB they are so dated now compared to the newer tech in PC laptops. the Asus v6v and Thinkpad are waaay better choices clocking in a nearly twce the power of the highend PB's.
And now iwth the switch to Intel crap the future for Mac is too uncertain to get one of thier computers now IMO. If your buying your software for it, your wasting your money.

very good point there randoman. i would wait, but time is not my friend right now. i also dj on the side and use serator scratch live, so i need a stable laptop to bring to my events this summer. my current pc laptop has been astable the last few months and its time to upgrade.
www.serato.com if ya dont know!

well why get a PB is what Im saying...
BTW I do music production on a Thinkpad and it's more than powerfull enough. Ive also owned a PB before, both a Pismo and Ti and can easily say the Thinkpad is better in everyway from build to battery life to performance.

theres an article in MacUser this month covering all the Mac range from ibooks to g5 duals
They cover the variety of PBs so could be useful for you.
Im sure they rated the 15 higher etc.
12" is cosy but really not 'design' friendly if you are using it for that - but then the 15" is a struggle too really! just not impossible

i have a 15" pb and it's hooked up to 19" LCD, it's great to have 2 screens when i am multi tasking.
12" is a little too small for me and i'd only consider it if i am a frequent business traveller.

15", else you wont get a full width webpage at a decent resolution and still have room for icons, widgets and notes down the side...
