Hello,
What percentage of your design work do you think is of a high quality. I mean i think i'm a pretty good designer but because of the type of place i work and the clients i sometimes have i'd say maybe 20% or less is work to be really proud of, just curious if anyone else feels that way. and does it bother you.

everything you do should be of quality it's your responsibility as a designer!

i guess i should explain, a lot of the work that i'm told to do is just working as a button pusher for my boss or client, so the quality goes down, all the work is of a quality but a lot of is something i would never show etc.

Right now my main clients are National Geographics and BBC, and their style is pretty lame so the work bores me sometimes.

what you might think of as good quality design, others might find boring and ugly, and the other way around ofcause. So there is no really % to it all

true designerror. But there are also objective means to measure good design. Typography, layout, color theory, composition, and how well it holds over time. You're right, a lot of people can't appreciate those things (and fall into the 2advanced school of design)
...but my favorite design right now is design that is aesthetically pleasing while working within traditional guidelines. Scribbles and collages and art that sticks itself in grids and Typefaces.
Just some thoughts.

but it realy comes down to who your client is, and how much they are willing to work with you
whether quality comes out. if the client micromanages you,. it'll probably be bad

a client that demand boring and bad work is just as good clients as the one that let you do whatever you want imo
i have both and most of the time i find it more challenging to get something good outta the picky boring client, compared to the one that just say do whatever you want
it feels sooo good after you have worked with them for a while and they finally give in and let you do it your way
that is what the job as a designer is all about

0% I don't conform to other people's standards. As long as I make a ton of money I could give a f*ck...

i'm starting to think that being happy with having work is better than sweating why certain pieces aren't "amazing" - i'm struggling with this, i'm always dissappointed when projects either get dropped or end up sucking - because of stuff out of my control. but i'm tryin.
