i use this all the time for most programs. i love it.
but in illustrator it doesn't hide the program, instead it does some wierd crap like hide bounding box or something. then i can't figure out what the F is wrong when i can't see my cursor in a text edit box.
UGH i could go on and on.
does this happen to you?

change your AI keyboard shortcuts..
Edit/ Keyboarrds Shortcuts (at the bottom)
you can give hide bounding box a different combo and reassign command-H to hide AI.

woah timg, amazing.
so i'm in that window now, but how do i add a command / edit one?

click in the shortcut column and press the key combo you would like to assign..
if its already occupied by another function you'' get a message to try something else.
and save your set as a new set, so you can flip back and forth to AI defaults easily.

thanks so much!
[ it wasn't working because i still had it set for the bounding box, once i cleared it i was able to set it for hide illustrator. ]
whoopee i am a free woman!

its awesome.. i've got my AI rigged up with tons of custom keys.
if you export the shortcuts to text you'll see you can assign a key for every menu item in AI.. go nuts!
my fav to shorcut are "select same fill color" & "select same stroke color".. if you do print work it makes preparing PMS seps so much easier.

i rather like option clicking the desktop or option clicking on another app.

yeah the option technique is pretty efficient too.
i'm also a big fan of Exposé in OSX.

i use F11 all the time, sweeps everything to the side so i can see my desktop real quick-like.
love it

+ Exposé combined with hot screen corners is yum.
