what do you use? I need something for my laptop... im thinking either a microdrive or a sandisk.
Would a DVD+RW work well too?
I need something small, portable and somewhat cheap and it needs to hold at least 4GB

DVD would work, if your laptop can handle that. I had lots of problems finding something that was actually compatible with my laptop, but that was probably just me. I ended up buying lots of CD's instead.

alright, i just want something slim so i can carry it around.
I was wondering, would it be safe to "work" off the backup drive instead of just backing up files to it? Would it defeat the purpose of a backup drive?

I thought of getting an external hard drive for my laptop, etc, but decided to upgrade my cd drive to dvd burner instead. Installed it yesterday and love it so far.
pros:
- multiple copies, not just one that you probably carry with you and will lose if the laptop gets stolen or something
- no extra weight
- you need it not only for backups, dvd is a standard after all

a friend of mine had this really thin usb harddrive (as big as half a cd-cover) which was really cool. work on your laptop or desktop then plug-in, transfer to drive and put it in your pocket. where ever you are you have everything with you.
anyone know what this is?

anyone have a microdrive? I like the idea of it being able to be in my laptop all the time, rather than me plugging and un plugging a external USB hardrive
