Borders bookstore has an eclectic mix of employees as well. Punk rockers, hippies, comic book store dude from The Simpson's, etc.
I can't remember the last time I was in a Starbucks. I've been going to some locally owned places with better coffee. I've never really liked mochas I got from Starbucks, they're too "powdery." And now that the chocolate bar in town sells something similar to a Chantico, I never have to go into starbucks again!

I applied there once and didn't have to time to go to the orientation, thereby not getting the job.
What was appealing to me:
- the pay is usually at least a dollar or two more than every other place.
- you take classes on coffee and other beverages.
- the people who work there are usually REALLY nice/unique.
- other opportunities/ benefits.
