here is to all the successful people.... the ones who are listed in all the mags... all the webzines...all the blogs...all the communities .... entering all the contests....
How do you do it?
Not how do you design... but when do you sleep ...how do you have time to
1) browse the net
2) go out for inspiration
3) enter all the contests
4) submit to contests with experimental work that doesnt pay
5) work on your own side projects
6) stay motivated
7) participate in forums
8) work on huge projects with short deadlines
9) stay well informed of design stuff
10) possibly have a wife, gf, and kid
11) travel
12) take pictures of everywhere you go
13) get drunk and still function at peak capacity?
14) how do you have time to design?is the answer: coke? just let me know....please...

coke is for losers!
ken...you just have to be in the moment each and every day, if coke is going to help you get motivated, then so be it...motovation comes from art that makes you thiink, not stuff that you can do, always walk foward instead of pivoting in the same spot...dont be an observer, be a creator. you just have to taake your time and figure it out for yourself...
good luck!!

Dont waste your time on PVN that's how you do it.

designers do all of those things through obsession
- liquid0
so am I just not obsessed?
- Gorbie0
"they" prolly don't get burnt putting everything they got into projects that are bound to suck from the get go.
- e-pill0
you sound needy, what is missing from your life that you think everyone else has?
i personaly want to achieve, i dont think that is being obsessed...you have to really enjoy it to want to make it happen, if you dont get it, if you dont see it ,if you dont like it ...well it will never be. you have to want it really bad!
like right now i really want a fat joint, so i will make it my mission today to do all my work with the greatest power i can so i can break out and get my smoke on!
:)
like nike™ said "just do it!"

I think talent will only take you so far. It comes down to drive & determination.

1. Steal
2. Khan other people into doing the work for you.No, seriously I'm still reaping the benefits of having submitted some of my earlier work to the portal-showcase sites. Awards like the FWA have garnered me some incredible exposure as well.
So, submit your stuff to the showcase and award sites. That would be my best advice.

Saul Steinberg would speak of having an “appetite” to make art, or conversely he might say, “I am not working right now.” He worked in episodic ways. Throughout his life his curiosity towards the world was to me always surprisingly deep and entirely unbridled. He had read just about every book, on every kind of subject, and traveled to about every place in the world. I always perceived his lifetime work as an encyclopedia of life on earth in the second half of the twentieth century. Any given interest, be it baseball or Tolstoy, would be complete in his mind. He spoke of the importance of an obsession.

The answer is....you don't get drunk :P
- liquid0
yeah well I dont...and dont do coke either...
gorbie had it...I am so wasted from getting burnt I almost dont do anything anymore...
- liquid0
its not about stopping the pvn...or anything like that...
I have been redoing my house...painting etc...I get a lot of "stuff" done... but I am not accomplishing anything when it comes to what I have chosen for a career....
I almost dont want it anymore becauseI feel like its not worth it...every client I have had has screwed me in one way or another....

Close liquid, the answer is Cocaine, not Coke.
- e-pill0
i disagree...maybe its a boyfriend you need.

- Gorbie0
yeah man... many of us have the same issue. i won't pretend to have the answer, though. cause that's still how i get by.
whatever the solution is... i'm sure it isn't done in a day, or a week, or even a year.

much rarer than a good designer is a good client
- jpolk0
um, there's also the whole talent piece... that's pretty key, duders...
