I love tornado season. Not actual tornados, those can be bad. But when I was a little girl in Arkansas, I loved it when the sky would get all greenish and we'd have to go down in the storm cellar and play board games.

i prefer earthquakes to tornados

we have none of those things in Toronto, mini tornadoes, yes, but they're just plain cute...

quite a few years ago a tornato hit less than a mile away from my house. my parents woke me up in the middle of the night and were yelling to get down in the basement.
as i ran past the living room bay window it was humming so loud from the wind i could hardly hear them yelling anymore. for some reason i stopped for a second, even knowing it was on the brink of imploding just because i wanted to see outside.
the tips of the evergreen trees were literally parallel to the ground. that's strong the wind was. the rain was blowing straight across. that was enough for me. i was the last one down having stopped to grab the dog.
the next morning we got word it hit a neighbors house a mile away pretty bad. blew their barn into the house like the wood had been shot from a cannon. the house looked like pinhead. 2x4s and 4x4s sticking out the side. we had wood chips in our yard which was in a straight line from the tornado, to the barn to our subdivision of 10 homes in the country. for some reason though the path from the tornado stopped a few hundred yards from the house and the funnel went up into the clouds, passing right over our house.
a farmer who saw it said it was on a direct path with our house, and at the last second jumped over it.
