Is it just a form of domain squatting when domains are bought as soon as they expire and they do nothing with them but have a cheap portal with generic links?
Is there any recourse possible for this? Especially if there was already a site built at that address?
My friend even owns a trademarked business name and his domain was taken this way.

same sh*t happened to me, now some kid wants me to pay him to et it back.
I'm afraid there's no protection when it comes to domains. Best thing to do is registrar-lock it when u buy.
