but that's not going to happen if everyone involved keeps waving their flags, right?

no not really. it will happen one day. but local cultures will remain to excist just like all subcultures within any country or any city right now. but then on a bigger scale.
i'm looking forward to that though. literally no borders, one country, borders are passe anyways. based on fear really. i welcome 1 united eu and even better 1 united world. so i don't think the eu will cease to excist.
then again i feel stateless, countryless and it feels good.
- rabattski0
oops. i think they mean serious business now.

who? qbn?

It's hard to imagine that the EU would fly- Euro nations have been fighting for eons. On top of that, would you want a politician from another country ruling over you, especially when you can't vote for him? It sounds very sketchy to an outsider such as myself.
vb, why'd you vote against it?
- rabattski0
well, obviously it needs it time. but it's how you describe it that says a lot about your view. "a politician from another country". aside from that your "own" politicians are there as well it's frankly based on fear.

1.
rabattski. agreed.

surrendering your nation should cause sizeable fear, on top of the eventual homogenous society that would come from it. shit, look what that did to us, we now bow to mass media
- rabattski0
is the us a homogenous society? i don't think so. aside from various ethnic varieties for instance are californians way different than new yorkers. interesting though so this would lead to a homogenous society that bows down to mass media? how do you come to that conclusion. again, it's how you describe it using words like "surrendering" "bow down" etc. who says who's surrendering? no one's giving up their roots, we're simply talking about 1 law, 1 economy. does this kill all cultural differences? don't think so. 1 world, 1 love.

You don't know you've surrendered until it's happened. The US is homogenous not in language or base culture, but in drive. Everyone absorbs the same crap mass culture, then spits it out into the feedback loop. And blam! before you know it, the whole country is watching Baywatch and working 60 hrs per week.
This is how white rappers came to be.
Take Spain for instance, their afternoon drunken naps could be things of the past.

you asume a lot. those are merely popular speculations and i seriously don't think the states can be seen as an analogy to the eu unification since a) the culture of the states is actually, sorry to say, the lack of culture (due to the fact that the states is quite young) while europe and all it's country consists of rich and old cultures, and please do explain why canada is so much more different than the states. b) still you conclude that within any unification process all identity will be lost, which again is just an asumption based on fear.

Eventually corporations will blanket the continent creating social expectations across all states.
canada isn't much different from the states. pretty much the same people, apart from minor differences. We all watch the same tv. Why do you think Derek2005 thinks he's a rapper?
- rabattski0
ok! derek! NOW you got me convinced! :)
- ********0
ha! all I had to do was show you a solid case study of the effects of mass culture without borders.
- rabattski0
exactly! :) you know where i stand.

I'm going to go ingest some crap tv along with people thousands of miles away, then we will both head for the mall at exatcly the same time
