Hi, I just got tired of Windows security. Cannot take anymore, what would you recommend, a Linux desktop or a Mac? I need a personal machine to connect to the internet, email, chat, office stuff. I already have a workstation I don't plug to the net in which I do design work. I'm tired of worrying about downloading patches and stuff, please help.
Are there security breaches on Linux and or Mac OS?

I recommend a Mac because they are the bestestest.

There are security issues with all OS's. However its the accuracy that they're patched with that really matters most.
There is zero spyware for macs and I haven't updated my Virex program in months. As long as you stay on top of your OS updates, you'll be just fine.

I felt just the same way 6 months ago... Also tired of having to worry about security holes on my Windows machine. So I opened the window and threw my PC's out... after my Powermac G5 was delivered.
Now I don't even have a virus scanner running.
And one other great thing, I've never had to install a single driver so far. Everything I plug in, just works. True plug and play... A dream...
So yeah... Go for mac...

It's the man, not the machine.
I never had any serious security issues on my PC, am just running NAV to keep me safe.

it's hard to tell if mac os x won't fall victim to viri etc. traditionally there are way less viri and what have you not on the mac but that simply had to do with the classic os and the low amount of mac users. now with the *nix based os x i don't know if that will remain the same. there are a lot of *nix users out there who find pleasure in writing a virus so i think mac os x will become more interesting for them, especially if a lot of people claim that there are no viri etc. on mac os x. so i think it's a matter of time till mac os x will be as vunerable as pc's.
