bigger is better. but bigger is more expensive and takes up space. so depends on where you want to use it for.

the intuos really is worth the extra money... i haven't tried the newer generation graphire's, but i have the 4x5 intuos both at home and at work and it's great.
the pen itself is a little heavier than the graphire's, so the extra weight makes it a little more comfortable to manuver and hold.
also the surface is a litle more comfortable, and it comes with buttons you can assign any sort of hotkeys you'd like to.
i assigned one to a photoshop action that takes the current selection, copys merged, creates a new image, resizes the canvas size by 2x2, creates a levels layer at "0.8", then brings up the save for web dialog box to save as a PNG (for bringing PNGs into flash.)
really handy, and you avoid having to get the vulcan death grip on the keyboard to do save for web.

i don't agree that bigger is necessarily better. in fact, it's quite the opposite for my purposes...
the reason i bought the 4x5 was because anything bigger was just *too* big for me. the bigger the tablet, the more it takes to get from one end of the screen to another.
when you have 2 large monitors side by side and a huge tablet, by the end of the day from going back and forth you feel like you've painted a fence or something.

thanks for the info gabe...it's silly that I'm just thinking of getting one now, but that's the way I operate...I think/debate for LONG periods of time when I should just bite the bullet and spend the cash...

graphire will suffice. they are all straight, either way it will take some getting used to.

like i said gabe, depends on what you need it for. a smaller one for instance is less acurate.

no prob... if you have an apple store near you they probably have the 6x8 intuos tablets set up at a few of the machines if you want to give it a test drive...
i forgot to mention that it's also pretty common to completely do away with your mouse once you have been using a tablet for a while.
most of the people i know including myself use the pen for everything, even every day web browsing, etc.
