How do you guys go about writing a bio about yourself? I can't decide if I should go the funny route. The meaningfu route. Has anyone seen or written really good bios? I wanna read em

It's a pain all the way around. You want to brag but you wan to not sound like a full of themselves asshole.
It's the same as writing a resume I guess: Better if someone else does it for you.

the most important thing though, who is your audience?

Designers go about writing bios in many different ways. Some use a timeline and make it humorous (http://www.kottke.org), others are quite serious and do it in paragraphs. Another possibility is writing it in third person.

I hate reading a bio that starts in the third person and ends in the first. There are a lot of these too.
I've always favored 1st person unless you are very established already. Sounds too informal to me.

I hate it when people double post.
:P
You're right. Make sure the entire thing is done in third person if you're doing it that way, otherwise it's annoying.

sorry, sometimes I hit the broadcast button twice before it has a chance to post it.

thanks guys. I guess I should just approach this like any other project. Simple simple simple.

I actually don't care. I double post too. Everyone does.

i think it has nothing to do with being established or not when you write in the third person. i think writing out your name several times sounds more interesting and a lil more professional, the me, myself and i.
but that's just Vormburo's opinion.

I tried writing my bio in the third person after seeing lots of professional do it. It feels awkward, that's all. Especially if your site also includes a blog. Because then some pages would be in the first person.

Jaline - if it feels awkward then thats a sure sign your not yet ready for 'The Third Person Bio'.

there are no good rules for this i think. write it like you feel. write something new.

It's prefrence really... I also like reading auto biographies as opposed to biographies. It all sounds more personal to me when I'm trying to learn about a person on a personal level.
