I remember in highschool we used to use letraset to make fake id's with our (g1/g2) drivers licences. Erase out the date (and top code) find a letraset that matched. We then used a light varnish overtop. The toughest part was removing the original type.

yep soda. i still have 'em and these days rarely use them.
