why mac?

phaser. in all honesty it depends on what you plan to do with the computer. large print files and video probably would do better on a mac.
whearas web stuff you can get away with a pc and save some cash.
not to mention a persons preference.
some men/women only will buy a chevy. some will only buy a ford. same difference. get what you want and what you can afford.

i have a tangerine ibook with mac os 7.6 and a max 3gig harddrive and a 28.8 dial-up modem and i love it!

I'm a dual user -- and both PCs and Macs have their problems. I was working on a dual G5 (OSX) at a company that hired me as a retoucher -- and right in the middle of a massive silhouetting job, Photoshop crashes, and erases all the work I'd been doing.
Could just as easily have happened on a PC.
Asking "why Mac?" is like asking someone why they bought a particular brand of automobile, or a particular brand of socks. You're not really going to change anyone's minds if they've made them up.
