the design firm i worked at owes me a couple thousand and it's been half a year. they keep telling me they will pay me small amounts until the amount is paid off, but i haven't seen shit.
i have no chioce but to go to a collection agency. does anyone know how they work ? do they just keep calling them ? cause that doesn't work, they can ignore calls. i want to know that it's worth 40% of my cheque.

a legal letter might help
get represented, possibly with help from your local AIGA chapter - and or a lawyer

ask rand to give them a call. they'll shit their pants and give you double the money. no, seriously.

on a serious note, collection agencies first call them and act all nice. then they send letters pretending to be all nice. when all of that doesnt work then they do this court of law deal where money is eventually taken out of the paychecks of the people who owe the money.
i dont know how that applies to companies.

yeah, I think the collection agency only gets paid when they collect, so if it doesn't work you don't owe them shit.

Do small claims, I did it once for $250...it's the principal.
Also what i do is use loadVars, to host a variable from my website until the remainder is collected, then deliver a .swf w/o the command on remainder. For print pieces I use a watermark. I am overly caustious b/c i've been messed with quite a bit in the past, i have a 8 page contract that goes over exactly how payment is to be paid, and consequences if not.
Hope this helps.
