I have produced an 'umbrella' site for a company with links to their other 'product/company' websites from there. They would like the umbrella site to appear first whenever you type in the web address for these 'other' sites so you get an overview of all their products 1st then link from there. Hope that makes sense.
Would you change the dns of the other sites to direct them to this umbrella site to acheive this? OR...
Put the umbrella pages on each web site and set that as the home page. Then for each site just change the home page to something like index1.html and link to it from the umbrella.
Anyone got any advice please???
Cheers

IMO change the DNS if you can easily.
Otherwise you may need to update multiple pages in the future if they want to change this home page.

what will happen then, if I change the dns? It will redirect to the 'umbrella' site... will it try to redirect me again when I click to go to the 'other' links off the site???

would you be able to persude them to go with some kind of feature which links back to the umbrella co from the sub sites? I would find it a bit strange typing in one URL and being taken to another...

OK how about creating simple (index) redirects to your umbrella page and then linking back to index1.htm - then don't alter the DNS so a reverse redirect won't be an issue.

why dont you use a php include onall the umbrella sites.
Include the umbrella index into all the other indexs.
rename the other site indexes index1.html and then link to them from the umbrella site
got that? :)
