Wow. I visited BestBuy today...checking out a new TV to buy. I don't wish this on anyone.
Too many choices, too many new/conflicting technologies and why the hell do stores like that always show such a crappy source (usually a stupid in-storm promo) on such high-end TVs?
I was overwhelmed and left. No new TV today.

If they would just show a movie on there...I could see a real difference...but they show the same low-res source on all the TVs. Very hard.
personally I think the tube HD's have the best picture. Too bad they don't make them very big.

dont bother with a TV, get a projector.

those guys at Best Buy don't know shit, one of the worst purchase experiences i've ever had.
TV wise, can't go wrong with a Sony Wega....absolutely love mine, although it weighs a fucking ton.
what kind of TV do you want? as in LCD, HD, blah, blah, blah.

I was considering that...but I don't have a good wall for it..and don't feel like buying a screen/storing it.

I don't know what TV I want yet. I want to see some image quality on typical use (DVDs and HD sports..maybe even a ps2 or something) then I can see what money i feel is justified.
I know I don't want plasma though...and I'm not really feeling rear-projection ( though I love the price/size ratio).

just went through the same thing a week ago - i just want a nice flat screen for movies - and maan, i was sooo overwhelmed - way worse than trying to buy computer equip

well with DVD's progressive scan and S-Video make a huge difference. the progressive scan is the function of the DVD player though.
i'd start here:

Thanks for the advice. Am I right about the tubes? or no?
- auricom0
for the money tubes seem to be the best setup. just heavier then all hell. the one i orginially looked at was a 36", damn thing weighed 250lbs.

Go plasma. The only reason you would need to worry about burn in is if you leave mario bros. paused on the screen for 3 hrs

I better not get a plasma then...hah

Fully agree with auricom. Guys that work at Best Buy do so to buy pot. Not that that is bad, or that pot is bad, but you have to question someone's ability to remember fine television details when their mind is clouded with bong resin.

just get the best sony you can afford.
