Thanks everyone...
As I understand, Dreamweaver & Flash would be a good start (I’m already familiar with Director 8).
As I said, since I’m using extensively Creative Suite, going with GoLive was a logical choice but after reading your posting, I think I changed my mind.
[+] My time is very limited, I need to create now...
Thanks again ;-)

bbedit for code...it is much lighter and more flexible than dreamweaver...there is a preview mode and whatnot

personally, i prefer a text-editor. However, i like the idea of learning XHTML in dreamweaver because you can really see what the code is doing.
Do not fall into the habit of using the preview all of the time. Use split-view so that you can learn more.
Also, GoLive sux. Do not use it.

Adobe bought Macromedia Go Live will die along with Freehand probably....go Dreamweaver.

Hello Web Design-Goodbye PRINT
Hi everyone,
To make a looong story short
I’ve been designing PRINT for too long now...I want to dive into Web Design but have no Idea which software should I start with.
I’m a pro Adobe user so I thought about GoLive. But there’s so many of ’em... Dreamweaver, Flash etc.
Please share!
Thanks everyone,
Appreciate
Phillip

sigh. why not learn xhtml and the languages of the web instead of software?
xhtml, css, javascript, php, python, perl etc. all be written in a text editor with the same results.

if he is just starting out it may be a good way for him to understand how things get laid out, as well as see how the code compiles it at the same time

cause you cant draw effectively with xhtml, css, javascript, php, python, perl etc.

phillip, you know all of the time that you've spent at printers getting colors right?
you'll end up spending the same amount of time getting sites to work across different browsers.

Why learn all the hard-coding from the get-go? He didn't say that he wants to a developer. He wants to be a web designer.
All he really needs is to learn dreamweaver/flash then he'll understand enough of what can be done on the web to properly design for it. From there you can learn the coding and all that...
Then again, I really have to no idea, I worked backwards...code->web->design->p... design. What do I know?

What a dream, to start out fresh in web design with no preexisting bad habits (other than thinking in terms of print).
My current use of InDesign is going great because it was so long ago that I used PageMaker or Quark. I took a day long course in InDesign in the winter and had a totally open mind.
Sat in a room with all these older Quark users asking a gillion questions about how InDesign was different.9 out of 10 sentences started with "Well, in Quark..."

if you took the dreamweaver suggestion seriously you might as well use frontpage
learn to code is great advice
start at the top not the bottom

I do mostly print, but flash is fun
