The standard issue :) I have been looking around for a reliable hosting company, checked the PVN here and I could come up with the best 2 names.
- Dreamhost
- MediatempleI read dreamhost had some mail problems for a week. I am still in doubt what to choose, since I can't be offline for a week. Dreamhosts plan is tempting...in price, but seems MT is giving less problems? Or am I wrong. Tell, me please, your experiences. thank you.

i don't know why anyone won't consider midphase.

I know you people are real patriotic about MT, but there are like a million hosts out there that are just as good.
- chimchim0
while I use mt now... I strongly suggest tilted if you have the cash! They are super swank.

enobrev likes to endorse boxnix.com
ive referred a few over there. their rates are pretty cheap.

i got (mt).
its killer backend... allows you insane control of your backend... (mt) gives you almost limitless control of your shit... you can do anything you want with your server pretty much, (even host clients under your server and charge them..)

will it make yer peepee big?

I am very impressed with Rackspaces offerings and support is just excellent and always right first time..
You get what you pay for in anything, I suppose - they're fairly priced - very happy overall..

Ok. tell me more about the alternatives. I am not choosing MT to get me a logo on the site, just because of good experience from what I see and hear.
But nobody is Dreamhost? Any experiences?

it has a lot to do with what your needs are.
do you need to be root and install your own software/ how much bandwidth? storage?
MT is good, dreamhost, powervps.
I've heard some stores about rackspace that are quite scary. They have this new thing called "fanatical support" where there people working there seemed to have gone off the deep end. On a few occasions various staff members were caught stalking customers, calling them at odd hours of the night, etc. So can't say I would reccomend them.

randoman, I need reliable uptime, good flexible access, and opportunities to upgrade to a higher level if the site expands. good service and reliability are for me the pro's.
I heard and read about MT, that's why I want to compare them. I know they are not the only one around, but who can tell me?
Still no more Dreamhost comments. And power VPS?

these guys are still my favorite:

i host my site, along with a majority of my clients sites with them. they support everything, their tech support is great, and their prices are LOW!

Powervps is good if your intrested in a Virtual Private Server... which gives you the control of a dedicated server at a lower price. For aorund $40 a month you get full root access and controll of a system running Linux. Around 150-200 GB transfer per month and around 10-20 gigs storage.
Having root means you can install whatever programs u want... shoutcast server, realvideo audio stream, XML sockets, etc.
If you don't need VPS, and you just need the basics, then MT or dreamhost would be fine, I would actually say go with dreamhost, from what i hear they are very reliable... Ive never heard a complaint about them.
Don't choose MT just because uses them. They get free servers to promote them. That doesnt mean MT isnt a good host, just that they arent the only ones.

you can get 25% off the Media Temple price through re_invograte.
there was also an Newstoday promotion that gave you -50%, but I doubt that code is still valid.

look, i'm gonna say this plainly...i don't care what host you pay...YOU WILL ALWAYS HAVE DOWNTIME.
five nines uptime, better known as 99.999% (or 24/7 if you like) is a MYTH.
i've managed server environments large and small in 3 corporate offices over my 6+ years in IT and there will always be a time when shit breaks and will need to be taken offline for repair.
failed drives in a raid. failed nic. failed processor. ram chip goes bad.
if any host tells you they can guarantee total uptime they're a liar.
i had dreamhost for many years without 'major' trouble. sure, there were times when a server went down...but it happens. and they scrambled to fix the issue and get things back online.
i would recommend dreamhost to anyone.
the only reason i dropped their service is because i finally got my servers back online at home.
