"Punk is DEAD!!"
-CrassI just had to throw that in there to remind you that you're not alone.
- rabattski0
indeed, diy, all the way. that to me is what punk is about. nothing more, nothing less.
but can you explain me why the vast majority looks down upon people who do not look or behave like them?
- mr7400
honestly, I blame it on MTV
The majority of people that have gotten into the mainstream's idea of "punk rock", brainwashes them with the idea that in order to gain punk points you have to act like an idiot, wear your clothes a certain way, and only listen to what other people who want to be punk listen to; which incidently, is the very crap that mtv puts out.
"Punk" is a well oiled corporate marketing machine. MTV feeds the kids just the right ammount of deviance they can give them in order to keep them coming back.
It's pretty disgusting, but individual underground communities, whatever they are, punk rock, hip hop - even the jazz community, we can all see thru the bullshit, and know how our pioneers did it.
We just carry on that toarch, and by the way things are going now, the kids need us more than ever.

DIY
That term means alot to some people. It means alot to me.
- rabattski0
allright. i'm curious how it will raise its head again in the future though. it can't continue in it's current way, the diy thought will remain the same, but it basically needs a new interpretation.
- mr7400
the music itself is always evolving.
I guess it wouldn't be able to if not for devoted fans of the cause.
I really do think we'll need to destroy MTV first. It's a shame how something that was so revolutionary, and such a great tool for musical exoposure when we were kids, could become the very essence in evil for music today.
It's kind of got a Star Wars Aniikin/Vader feel too it, does it not?
- mr7400
I spelled Anikin wrong.
I am shamed.
- rabattski0
yep. destroying by ignoring.
well music wise it's a whole different story though. my girlfriend plays bass in an all chick punk trash band. she has connections and know what's being said behind her back. and you hear the weirdest shit. punk chicks don't digging the band because they don't look punk enough or punks don't digging the band coz it's too rockabilly. etc. and i'm like wtf? there are rules? since when are there rules? didn't you oppose to rules yet you set rules and in the same time you call yourself a punk? all hyporcrits.this whole punk scene can be flushed down the toilet. can't wait till a new breed pop ups who don't give a damn how they look and just embrace the whole diy mentality.
- mr7400
rabattski...
brother...you and I have much more in common than you might believe
those narrow minded 'rules' are exactly what makes it all so laughable.
That's not a community tho, that's a prom.
- iDp0
hey Mr740 I'm sorry man, I didnt make it out! :(
Next time you come hit me up and I'll show. We'll pop Point5's cherry and show him the ledgendary LV bar.
- rabattski0
a prom indeed. :)
- mr7400
fuck the prom!!
:D
- mr7400
where'd mugwai go?
I wonder if he went to the prom.
- mogwai0
but is there any longeivity in your Punk Rock scene? Dont we grow up, and realize that we have to make a living, and in doing so, find our nitch in mainstream? isn't punk for the young, living off mom and dad and using their lunch money to make flyers, DIY. Is the punk scene not meant to be a revolving door in this sense? where the old sell-outs look back at the 'neu-punks' and think "that aint punk"
dont we bore of angst, power chords, and "the look"?
- mogwai0
where'd mugwai go?
I wonder if he went to the prom.
mr740
(May 23 05, 13:22)or
"cool, there are a couple of people that agree with me, now where did that guy go that didn't agree? he's so lame"
is that punk?
- rabattski0
well you make a good point in saying that the old punks look at the new punks and say it ain't punk. not knowing that within that perspective they themselves are setting the rules they don't want to have. anyways, i consider myself a punk, i'm independent, i don't depend on the state nor do i work for a boss. and that for quite some time now. i make it all happen single handedly. that is imo all diy. for the rest i really don't care. i'm just amazed about how hyporcrit it is. how it upsets me a bit. and actually i shouldn't care and just move on.
- mr7400
ugh you're giving me a headache with all the "shouldn't it be this way - shouldn't it be that way".
The longevity of the Arizona punk scene has come far and worked hard from the days of JFA and The Impossibles.
There's not much to it, we've just done it and stuck to it. Money for flyers and demos it just a part of the game. We get by.
- rabattski0
in other words the diy based on mom's lunchmoney is a lot more than that.
- mr7400
and don't get defensive dude. This is a conversation, not a "I'm ponk and your not" cock contest.
No offense intended.
- mr7400
mom's lunch money?
you are aware that bands do get paid to play shows at times, right?
