What measurements should you work with in different browsers for different resolutions? like 1024*768, 800*600 etc..
?
- rabattski0
???? can't compute question. be more specific please.
- radar0
didn't you just answer your question? The norm now seems to be 1024x768.

if you build using xhtml/css in a liquid format...then browser size really becomes a non-issue, doesn't it?
;)

no way radar, the norm ain't 1024x768, you miss out on 40% of your audience if you go for that dimension.

now now, hym. flash is the app choice for all "web designers" out there.
everyone knows that. no one needs to know how to write markup. the language of the web.

your right rabattski, I mean't 800x600. I was thinking about my stats.
- MLVR0
Well... I am designing a portal for 1024*768. So what is the real size - 1024*768 -(minus)browser tool bar, scrollbars etc...?
- sparker0
don't forget, though, that 800x600 implies the resolution.
when designing sized specific sites you have to subtract the chrome of the browser. which differs browser to browser.
i don't know how current this still is, but it's a start.

Ha ha - it's too easy to get you lot wound up. It just takes one little CSS is rubbish comment and your off.
- sparker0
wrong one.

"you lot" is a bit exaggerating / wishfull thinking skt.

If you're using dreamweaver there's a set of standard measurements, minus the chrome, listed at the bottom of the window, I don't know, I don't remember, good luck.

X number of silly posts and sparker finally posts the right thing.
Who hasn't used that list on webmonkey before? It's been there since 2000 and always a good resource. Plenty else there also that is helpful.

one way to make life easier is to just use a bookmarklet to resize your browser accordingly, take a screen capture of it and use it as the base layer in photoshop for a "template" of sorts.
that will give you a good idea of what your canvas space is.

(May 23 05, 06:45)You lot as in um, you lot. How the fuck else am I meant to say it? It leaves it up to you to decide if that includes you. Quite generously I thought.
If I had to clarify who I meant I would say the coders of the world that put those gay little xhtml compliant buttons at the bottom of their piss ugly websites. And those that jump on a statement like css is for losers and take it seriously.

mmmh, liquid
