hey all.
I'va had the 17" powerbook for a bit less than two years now and in the last few months the screen has been getting looser. I tried tightening the little screws than seem to be holding it, but it doesn't seem like it's doing the job and I'm a bit afraid to over-tight them.
Any ideas how I ca make the screen tighter?

Sell it on ebay and purchase a PC laptop. The new centrinos out perform the powerbook in both performance and battery life.

I 'm not convinced that's true, but in any case, I'm sure they don't run OS X...

As weird as it sounds, my PB now comes with two paperclips on each side to tighen it up. But then again, I did run it over with a car so I can't blame anyone.
How bad is it? Does it get sharper if you press it on the back?

it's not TOO bad yet, but it looks like it's going to be at some point.
what do you mean by 'sharper when I press it in the back'?

Well if the screws are loose, it could be possible that you're losing brightness, no?
Just look at me, I have a screw loose and I'm not very tight in the back.
^_^
Umm.. nevermind.

what screws are you tightening? At least on the 15" it looks like you have no access to any of the hinge stuff..
Why dont you call Applecare? They could probably tell you what could be wrong if you suggest you might put it in for repair... then decide. I've even had stuff fixed free out of warranty if it is obviously a design/quality flaw.
