the way I look at it, I carry around a mobile phone everyday anyway, the least they can do is throw an mp3 player on it.

I'm kind of with you sparker.
I see the convergance of the two devices more as a "Let's get there first" situation rather than "let's give people a really great device."
I wonder what kind of surveys have been done of potential consumers (if any have bee done) to find out if/why they would like the two combined.

but is MS making mp3 player phones now? They're not really in the business of hardware.
And Apple has been savvy enough to stay ahead of the competition just a hair. I bet when the time is right they'll team up with someone to make Ipod phones and sell those to the zealots.

i agree, mg33. what makes the ipod a great device is it does one thing, does it well and does it with the user in mind.
what is an ipod? an mp3 player. what does it do? plays fucking mp3s. why? because people hate my industry.

sure, to a lessor degree it does other shit...stores files, pictures, etc.
but it's true purpose is to play music and it does just that.

Doesn't matter...just like the fact that you can't buy a decent cell phone without a camera. You're going to get it whether you like it or not, becase it expands the device to other commoditie$.

if the phone has a display that shows what track is playing, it works for me. I dont need to make a fashion statement with an mp3 player.

yea. i would love nothing more than a slick looking PHONE. a fucking phone.
i don't want a camera. i don't want fucking video. i don't want fucking annoying bullshit ringtones.
i want a damn phone. bluetooth so i can use a wireless headset.
that's it.
i guess it's too much to ask for, though.
