I posted this in another thread but I thought it should be in a thread of its own:
I know its a long shot but does anyone know of any sites that have access to images that are no longer under copyright, think I read somewhere that Lawrence Zeegan sources old books for old illustrations that had exceeded the copyright period, it 50 years or something.

this is an interesting issue.
Stock libraries are extremely cheeky in that they are stockpiling public domain prints and listing the scanned versions as copyrighted material; the loophole being that as they scanned the source, they own the digital rights. The same thing is likely to happen to old films whereby if you own the original VHS when it passes to the public domain you would legally be able to do with it what you will, but as it is more likely that you can only get hold of a digitised DVD, then the rights are owned by whoever digitised it. So keep you VHS.. or something.
