the zelda for the revolution should rock it
uberdesigner
(May 17 05, 13:59)Zelda is so tired... Zelda will rock the 15' TV's of every playroom and nusery in the country but that wont change a thing.
Unless Nintendo doesn't pull out a total wild card and ship it with something ground breaking (like innovative VR device) i can't see them surviving past this round of consoles. They will have to revert to a software company but i don't think they would. They would most likely see it as a loss of face or something. Who knows how much longer Nintendo will be around? Look what happened to Atari back in the day, it can happen to anyone.

that's a good point, bgheen

nintendo still rule the portable game market and dont make a loss when they sell there console.

why on earth would blu-ray be expensive to produce? it's just essentialy an updated version of DVD, isn't it?
anyway, those costs will pale in comparison to the massive amounts required for the development involved in filling out that extra capacity...
...so ..um.. i guess you're right!

I was comenting with my friend that the rumble thing is getting old, if a fps is played everyday, the rumble sensation loses its effect, so why not give people a shock if they die, it will increasingly give rated M games a edge, and improve game play.

i wonder if the ps3's super high resolution and multiple hd outputs might [finally] be used for VR goggles?
when will this shit finally come out?!
- bgheen0
BluRay is a completely different product requiring a new manafacturing process. Not really related to DVD at all besides the fact it's the official replacement.
I suspect the xbox360 games will be expensive as well. DD/DVDs are still expensive to produce.
I can't imagine why sony thought it as a good idea to go with BluRay. Just showing off their own format?
Double layer DVD is all they'll ever need. I can almost garuntee that.
Besides, like I said, Sony/M$ are going to have to pay a ton of dough to get publishers to have system exclusives in this next round.

that's nothin' but bad news, man. didn't you see lawnmower man?
- randoman0
The shock controller...Thats not such a bad idea - as long as you have the option of switching the thing off.
Mentally, it would increase the stakes when playing multiplayer games. You would now want to avoid being shot so as not to feel pain as well... could have an intresting effect on gaming.

VR won't work until a drug is developed to fix the motion and VR sickness that have plagued previous efforts.
Unless someone produces a cheap CAVE. That would be awesome. I had the pleasure of working with a CAVE this year and it was awesome
- scarabin0
yeah, but it'll cause seizures or something in people and they'll sue
- scarabin0
shock controllers i mean

i think i can deal with the new ps3 controller if it's small and heavy.
if it's like big and light like the first xbox controller i'm gonna have to go third party for the first time.
they just shouldn't have messed with perfection... the ps2 boasted the best controller of all consoles
- fate_redux0
Scarabin, you and I gotta create a marketing proposal of why sony is fucking stupid, industrial design wise. We'll send it certified mail.
- bgheen0
Did anyone else have cramps after extended PSX/PS2 play? I felt the dual shock would have been perfect if they made it alittle larger.
What a nightmare though. I have a product design background, so I can appreciate the massive challenge it is to scale a controller perfectly. A device used by every age group and sex? wow...count me out!
That said, there is NO excuse for the PS3 controller's design.
- Lesk0
no, you can't turn it off, or everybody will do it and it will not serve its purpose, and its rated M, use at own risk, if you have health issues play mario, besides if people get satisfaction from killing, pay the price of a little pain. shiiit.
- randoman0
Nothing a little warning on the box couldent aliveate (sp!)
As far as getting nautious is concerned, I think if they were carefully when implementing the design it could be avoided.
Those movie goggle things have been popular for sometime w/out reports of getting sick.
And with newer technology there should be less or virtually no lag time (ie. turn your head and the image updates w/out latency) this is what I think was the problem with the older VR outfits. even a few hundred milliseconds can mess u up over time.

shock controllers should come with a shock gauge, next time ur friends say thei're so l33t at a fps game... crank that gauge up to 1000 volts and let him show u how l33t he is.
