"His family, he says, has been a huge support over the past eight months. "They've been phenomenal really, just incredible. What beautiful people. Everyone loves their family but it's good if you can like them too."
His religion is also crucial. "I don't normally talk about my religion publicly because I don't want people to associate me and my flaws with this beautiful thing. And I believe it is a beautiful religion if you learn it the right way. It's a lifelong effort. Your religion is your standard. Coming here I don't have the distractions of fame. It quiets the ego down. I'm interested in the kind of person I've got to become. I want to be well rounded and the industry is a place of extremes. I want to be well balanced. I've got to check my intentions, man.""
aww bless.
good thing he can neutralize himself amidst all the hype in the world of fame and money-addicted media.

"They've been phenomenal really, just incredible. What beautiful people."

oh man... so is Mos Def now a 'sell-out'?
Everyone's a sell-out... including all of you. Stop getting so wrapped up in famous people's lives - they shit everything as nasty as you and then some.
- twooh0
Gotta pay the bills man...
- kbags0
thank you Ponyboy
get real people. Seriously, stop whining and go get paid with your time.
- Zeitgeist0
I wish I could sign a $50million deal with someone then give them the finger and go hang out on the beach...
- ********0
no such thing as a sell-out. you either make money or you don't
- mattyd0
the only reason im surprised is he shuns all that shit in his music and then i look up and he's on TV doing exactly what he speaks out against.
and does movies like 'the italian job'
- blackspade0
whatever
that does suck of Mos Def
like chapelle said "check your intentions"
- kbags0
mattyd, i've only got his latest album, i'll have to listen more closely cuz you may be right.
but hey, eddie murphy used to curse til he had kids, maybe mos def is thinking planned parenthood, hence the family vehicle endorsements? lol.
and like that Time article says, you never know how you or the people around you are gonna react to $50million til you're there. I'd probably tell the world to fuck off....
....and race off into the sunset mooning the dock in my custom donzi speed-power-yacht full of bikini clad hotties!

Hey more power to him. I've always liked Chappelle because he's funny as sh*t but also because of the spirit he was talking about in the article.
Even just watching him on TV, there is something warm and comforting coming from him... good aura or something.
His decision to take some time and listen to his own voice (not lose himself) is a very intelligent one. I know from our standpoint it's easy to say "sh*t the guys a multimillionaire, stop crying about things and get back to work" but he has a point about the type of people that surround you and mislead you. In some cases his spirit will be challanged more than most because of these things and the extream circumstances (and horrible people) that money and power bring into one's life.
Anyone remember the skit he did that was a take on Vice City? He goes off to work in the morning, leaves the house, jacks a car like in the game, cycles through weapons like in the game, etc.
Some of the funnist sh*t.
