Just been knocked back for an interview for a middle-weight designer at an agency..gutted..
iam obviously pretty shit.
Think its now time I go solo. There's no other way I can improve ( current role, working in-house is no way of progessing)Whats the best way of advertising myself as a company and how would I get clients?

word of mouth. spread it.
i started by telling my family and friends. i gave them all a few business cards and had them put out their feelers. next thing i know i have people coming to me and i don't have to go around looking anymore.
it's a steady stream.

Yup, word of mouth has brought us all of our clients so far. We've yet to advertise our services.

create templates for all of your forms (contracts, invoices, thank yous, letterhead, etc.)
grab a project management tool like http://www.basecamphq.com
document your finances down to every bottled water you buy on the way to meet a client...come tax time hire an accountant who works regularly with self-employed individuals...you should probably meet with someone like this before you begin to get some advice for how to keep all your records and what sorts of licenses etc. you will need in your city
partner with local freelancers in related fields so you can take on larger projects but still specialize in your strengths...it will save you lots of time and aggravation...
then word of mouth, pass out business cards and hustle your ass off
