How is this possible.
I was just informed that someone at this cosmetic surgury center stole the flash from www.drgrace.ca and is using it on a plasma screen. Any idea how in the world they did it?

If its a self-contained file, they'll just save it from their cache and reuse it elsewhere :(

quite simple.
1. Flash Grabber or the like
2. SWF DeCompiler, which exports to .fladone!

if that works i might try stealing it.

Incredible.. Is there any way to stop people from stealing it?
This is crappy

you could make a php script or something i suppose to map the path's to your other swf's that get loaded from a container swf, then just reference those dynamic path's somehow in your main swf... since they can never read the source to the php, they'll never know the path's to your swf's.
just a thought
not sure if it'd even work though

I never used this

theres only one way to protect flash.
make it so bad no one wants to steal it.

use:
dummy loader
+
dummy main file
+
php md5 encoded string to retrieve the path to your content
+
obfuscate the content to its binary output
done.

use AS2.0 compiled classes as much as possible.
voilá.

lace it with plutonium

none of the above really works they just make it harder to use.
especially "portect from import"
Any smart arse can grab that shit once it has been seen in yr browser[*].[*]
:((

The thing is, the file will always be stored in the cache. So it can always be ripped. So make it so difficult by adding external swf's in different directories that people have a hell of a time trying to rip it.

either way,
when the file's been [correctly] obfuscated
it reverse engineering bercome almost impossible
since the logic of the strucuture becomes worthless or lost
not even graphics
if you 'externalize' your library assets

I had no idea it was possible.
But I'm a print monkey.
Site is SEXY though!

I'd rather let them steal it, then find out about it and sue their plasma-screen-owning a$$es for a bajillion dollar$!

People can try to hide it, but if you find where it rests you can virtually grab anything and DL it. Not condoning it, but you can do it easily. Most people don't take the time or care to protect it. Trust me...

most things I do have extensive database connectivity... the flash is worthless without the content.
it's unlikely the person will have the skills necessary to hack your database and obtain your server side scripts.
