we were talking about doing a promo for our agency the other day. someone suggested putting a flash pres on a usb thumb drive. maybe wrapping it with our logo, etc. and then sending it to prospects who would then plug it in to view our work.
1. can you make a pres auto run on one of these things the same way you do a cd rom?
2. if you got one of these in the mail, would you be hesitant to just "plug" it in?
I'm just trying to look at both the pros and cons of something like this. We want to do something different than just a a CD but I'm not quite sure this would work.
thanks,

if you make it writable so that each thumb drive ends up being a "gift" i think it could work...the logistics are questions i can't answer...but i think people would dig it

As for your first question-
No you cannot make anything autorun off a USB drive.2. Actually, I would definately be hesitant to plug it in. I might even just say "Cool, a free USB drive" and format it without even checking to see if there were files on it already.
I think the idea is great, in theory- but when you take into account costs, time (cause you would have to plug in and copy the files to each and every USB drive) and how much can go wrong, you see why people don't really stray too far from cheap and easy CD roms. Put that time and money into cool packaging for a mini CD or a mini DVD.

You can get a file to autorun off of a USB drive.
You have to find a vendor that supports this functionality, then send the vendor the file to autorun once you place your order.
Director Projector might be a better choice than a flash app.

thanks for the input. I have my doubts about the thumb drive. I do like the idea of the mini cd. It is a bit safer but a little more unique than the regular size one.
Last question. does anyone know of a vendor who makes boxes that when you lift the lid, a light comes on the inside. Sort of a self lighting set up. Or wondering if you could just rig this up yourself. Buy the box and then put a light in to sense when the lid opens and light up.

mini cd's can't run in slot-loading drives. like those on the Powerbooks, FYI. just ask me how i know.....

What kind of box? What size? That's the kind of thing that can be very expensive (Aluminum box lined with LEDs) or very cheap (cardboard box with a 2 watt bulb)
