Well, I'm working on redesigning a major car company's website. I mean, THE WHOLE SITE. I am working on a few comps and would like to ask you all, what do ou look for in a car website? should it be all flash? should it push selling a lot? shoudl i just look good? It is a more conservative, yet progressive, car company with a lot of history behind it and also with a lot of future ahead. (not a japanese car company) what do you all want? what should be some good approaches?

one consumers opinion:
i want a good presentation, but more importantly, i want to be able to find the info fast. ie. specs, gallery, dealership locator, model selector, options, accessories, etc.
i don't mind being teased with hot photos and a slick interface, but if i can't find what i'm looking for fast, i'm probably going to look elsewhere...

Basically when someones says they are conservative, yet progressive means they are confused. They think of themselves as a progressive company. However deep down inside they are lying to themselves because they dont want people to think they are conservative.

I agree with jobs on this. Its gott look good but it also the infor must be easy to get to. No waiting for annoying inbetween animations.
VW microsites are perfect examples on how to make a car site.
Here is a great example.

When I was younger I used to think that those websites were made by hi-profile top professional teams who knew what they were doing ;)

when you select the color in the "build your own" section, it should be THE CAR IN THAT COLOR, not a badly colorized image of the car.
