you can save conversations in MSN and iChat already..

yeah but can I get it to do that automatically and allow for me to search the conversations? This is very important for me...

go to your ichat preferences...and under 'messages' click save message

yeas you can. do what Nac said and then they are all stored in the Home/Documents/iChats directory.
search to your hearts content....

Tiger's (OS X 10.4) Spotlight will search chats.
