Im so undecided at the moment, I want to get the new imac G5. I just thought if I post my thoughts it might push me closer to getting my arse in gear and getting one.
I just can’t decide!!!!!!!!

It's a tool...
Ask yerself - Is it gonna pay for itself?
Don't be a sucker to new flashy products.
I've got an on blue G3 it's not amazing, but it does what I need it to do.

I ve just started a new job and it’s the first time I ve worked on a Mac, before it was just a laptop/pc, and I must say I was impressed.
I still want to do freelance work here and there, but like u sayI can't decide whether its more want than need.

i bought a brandnew 15" bp this week.
ideal for freelance work 'here and there'.

I guess if it's your first time on a mac, and because of your job you need you to be up to speed...
hmm... white coloured box...

to be honest the brand new iMac announced this week is a pretty huge upgrade.
Is it for home or office use? if it's for office then go with a desktop G5, but if it's for home then go for the iMac... just do it, it'll last a long time since it's a 2Ghz G5 with really decent stats.

dude... my new imac G5 is a month old... and i love it. i'm a designer, employed and freelance, and its just awesome.
any new computer is more than you need... i was getting work done on an old 333 G3 imac before... but the difference in speed has increased my productivity big time. plus its gorgeous, which helps.
the question isn't imac or not... its imac or something else... if you need a computer then get it, if not, stop killing yourself with envy.

i was gonna buy a new imac but thought the new spec emac would be a better option as a freelance illustrator, and it arrived today. £400 less than the imac and I get some better options on there too, just G4 not G5.
(I was running a 300mhz b+w G3)

hey man a G5 2ghz will last "forever" I am still using a G4 400Mhz at the office and still making money...sure its getting slowly here and there specially with flash but still rock!!

Well at the mo im working on a 2.8ghz laptop to do my freelance work, but its getting to be a pain in the arse. Thats why i was deciding on the i mac option.

if you can spare the grand to throw at it mate, do it.
buy it now!

Just remember, in 5 years it will probably be worthless. At least with a tower, it's easy to upgrade.
- fifty500
It would definitely not be worthless to have a G5 on your desk... it would last longer than just five years

New desktop G5's are a big step forward, there is tons of scope for upgrades as the years unfold.
In the words of Ivana Trump:
"Baby, you know I love a tower"*notices blue G3 looking sad under the desk...

I'm networking my old G3 up as I don't want to let it just gather dust in the loft (and its worth around 8pence on ebay)
ps stem,
hows' donny treating you?
I was born there. its changed alot recently.

If you can spare the change, you should definitely consider getting a dual processor G5.
I've got a dualie 450 MHz G4 and it still works great for Flash, 3D, Photoshop and video editing.
I actually considered buying one of the new iMacs, because they're a great bargain now.
but i'll probably get another dual tower because of their extra power.

de4k - towns on the up!
New Airport - The World's our Lobster!
Gonna get a good dose of the clap tonight!
- de4k0
ah yeah the Airport!! holy crap.
I'll be able to fly home from Cardiff soon!and yes of course the legendary Donny night out, good luck doood, wear a hat. ;)

I make my living working on a dual 450 G4- does what I need it to do- runs great. A G5 imac will last along time. In five years you might not be able to load the newest OS on it but it will be far from a dead machine.

If you've got monitors already, get the PowerMac G5, the bus speed is much higher and your expandability options are much greater. Get the low end and up the ram to over 1GB and you'll be computin' pretty and fast.

if you can afford it get the imac. it's a great machine.
only about 5 months ago did i get an ibook up from a 350 g4. after i saw the g4 wasn't worth much on ebay i'm networking it with the ibook and turing it into a server and mp3 playa.
only issue i have with the ibook that i'm trying to get over is the small screen size. i went from a 21" monitor on the g4 to a 14" ibook screen. :(
i'm getting used to it though.
