i am all for the pureness of html. you can do some great things with it.
only make sites using it.

i like having some flash widgets. But, you cant really make a site visible to search engines, or at least not optimized if it is all flash. HTML can do some great stuff in conjunction with flash.

I was mega big on flash for a while. But these days HTML is so much more beneficical.
Depends what you're after though.
I still use flash when i'm making one off movies with a distinct purpose. But using flash for whole sites isn't worth it.
HTML all the way in my opinion. Fash, efficient, no plugins, easily manageable.

This is the most amazing HTML site I have ever seen...

If the project has anything to do with audio or video or lots of flat graphics, Flash all the way.

The division goes like this...
HTML/CSS = websites, e-commerce.
Flash = Applications, Games, presentations, ads/marketing (some websites fall under the category of marketing pieces).

i'm at about 80% flash projects right now. i hate it when css/html doesn't work correctly across platforms/browsers, so i guess it's just my preference. maybe i just need to brush up on my css skills though to make my non-flash work actually, well, work.

well i think it should used when its supposed to. such as helping to create an experience or get the message across better.
i use flash only if we have to.
i am a big fan of html, cause when done correctly, nothing happens with cross platform blah blah.
mind, flash is machine and processor dependent cause i hate seeing slow animation and chunky video on my 12' pb. where i can see better smoothness on Celeron.

to only use HTML and never Flash is stupid. even though your a nerd and know all the benefits HTML has over Flash, the general public still love animated Flash websites, as long as they don't hamper the site's functionality. yes, intros are stupid, and yes, over-doing the animation is stupid, but when Flash is done correctly it generates huge response. much more response than an HTML site.

Im pretty much into flash but these days the html vs flash question is something like 40 vs 60 % for me.
I really dig when a site is well done and then it can be html, flash or what ever.
Flash is better for making "concept" websites – you know getting the idea out...

corporate = html (sometimes flash for headers and stuff)
freelance jobs = flash
A lot of people still want the flashy stuff on their site, specially if they are not big $$$ company. SO there is plenty of work both ways, you just have to descide what you want to do

85% - 15% flash to html
html when a site needs to rank and sell, flash when its a true marketing message

(May 5 05, 20:47)this is not html though really, there is a serious amount of javascript at work there.
I like the fact he is pushing the limits, but is not very stable compared to flash.
I think both have good and bad points, so it is best to decide what yr target/purpose is and make yr decision that way

and you could have acomplished the same thing with flash.

i very rarely get excited by a css/html site, whereas flash can deliver (if done well) a really engaging experience.
that said its all about appropriateness. for example I would hate to see this site in flash.
- fusionpixel0
no offence, but when i first saw the site i thought it was flash. I dont know how you would hate to see it in flash since it would not make any difference.

this site.. NEWSTODAY.

there used to be this site called creative-ctrl.com but it's been offline for a few years now. one of the best uses of html.

I too went through a Flash phase, trying to construct everything out of flash. my personal site is still in pure flash. it looks good and it's surely impressive to do thing with, but it can be a bitch to update and it's made me too lazy to even bother. i've gone back to my html roots ;)
