A friend of mine recently completed a motorway driving course, and he said that instructor told him the following...
"the average survival time for a motorist broke down on the hard shoulder is 11 minutes"
That sounds like complete bollox to me?!

what the heck is a hard shoulder....?
I pullover..... get out....change my tire.....and wallah.....I leave.... sometimes depending on how tight the damn lugs are it takes a half hour.....my jack sucks 2....

that's only true in parts of nicaragua.

actually, that is what is told in holland and germany as well. when your car breaks down and you stopped at the hard sholder never wait in your car or around your car but move over that rail thing away from the highway. a lot of accidents happen that way. 11 minutes sounds a bit too hardcore but it for sure is very unsafe there.

note: during a lot of traffic, where there is less overview.

well being a bush baby i believe lies are ok as long as it saves lives, just like the tooth fairy

they're not really lies, those "11 minutes" are more like the warnings on cigarette packaging. just make sure people remember it.
